ERP Value Realisation

You have already invested in SAP. This is how leadership gets more from it.

SAP and comparable enterprise platforms are strong systems of record. They hold the transactional truth of the business. What leadership often still needs is a connected management layer above them — one that joins ERP data with the information held elsewhere, explains performance, signals risk early and turns exceptions into accountable action.

Xylm works with your ERP, not against it. Your enterprise platform stays the system of record; we build the management intelligence and execution layer on top of it.
Where the gap usually sits

The ERP may be doing its job. The remaining opportunity often sits in the management layer around it.

These gaps are structural rather than a reflection of implementation quality. They appear in well-run SAP estates as often as anywhere else, because management questions cut across the modules that transactional systems are designed to keep clean.

Information outside the ERP

Quotations, plans, quality records, logistics updates and commercial context often live in spreadsheets, email and departmental tools. Management questions need both sides joined.

Module views, not outcome views

ERP reporting is organised around documents and modules. Leadership questions are organised around outcomes — customer profitability, order risk, working capital, plan attainment.

Explanation, not just measurement

Standard reports show that a number moved. Deciding what to do requires drill-down to the customers, products, suppliers and transactions behind the movement.

Forward view

Systems of record describe what has been posted. Management also needs early signals on delivery risk, collections exposure and demand shifts.

From report to accountable action

An exception becomes control only when it carries an owner, a response window and an escalation rule that is recorded and measurable.

Agreed definitions

Where two functions calculate the same metric differently, the disagreement is usually definitional rather than technical. Definitions are agreed once and governed.

Architecture

Three layers, with your ERP intact at the base.

01

Your enterprise systems stay in place

Your ERP typically remains the system of record. The final architecture is designed around your existing environment, governance requirements and the agreed Control Tower scope.

02

A connected management layer

Xylm reads from the ERP and joins it with the spreadsheets, databases and operational sources that hold the rest of the picture, under agreed business definitions.

03

Intelligence and accountable execution

Exception detection, root-cause analysis, predictive signals and decision support are linked to owners, approvals, alerts and escalation paths.

The approach is platform-neutral. It applies equally to SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle, Infor, Odoo, Tally and in-house systems, provided data can be read through a supported interface or export.

Where to begin

The ERP Value Diagnostic.

A focused, founder-led review of what your enterprise system already supports well and where leadership still works around it. The output is a written view of the first area worth building, not a platform recommendation.

  • The management decisions that currently take too long or happen too late.
  • What your ERP already holds and reports well today.
  • The information that lives outside the ERP and how it is maintained.
  • Definition and master-data gaps behind conflicting numbers.
  • The single area where a connected view would change decisions fastest.
  • A phased outline for the first production use case.
Suited to
  • — Companies live on SAP or an equivalent platform for a year or more.
  • — Leadership teams still assembling management packs in spreadsheets.
  • — Businesses where two functions quote different numbers for the same metric.
  • — Teams considering a reporting or analytics investment on top of the ERP.

Frequently asked

ERP Value Realisation questions.

Does this replace our SAP or ERP system?

No. SAP and comparable enterprise platforms are strong systems of record with deep functional capability. Xylm works above them, reading from the ERP and complementing it with a connected management, prediction and execution layer.

Is this a criticism of our ERP implementation?

No. Most ERP platforms are configured for transactional integrity, statutory compliance and process control. Cross-functional management questions usually require additional definitions, external data and workflow design that sit outside the scope of a typical ERP implementation.

Do we need to change our ERP configuration?

Usually not. Work begins with read access to the relevant tables or extracts. Where a definition or master-data gap is identified, we document it so your ERP partner or internal team can decide whether to address it inside the ERP.

Which ERP platforms can you work with?

The approach is platform-neutral. It applies to SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle, Infor, Odoo, Tally and industry-specific or in-house systems, provided data can be accessed through a supported interface or export.

Where does the data physically sit?

Hosting, access control and data-handling responsibilities are agreed with your team before any production data is accessed. The deployment model follows your infrastructure and governance requirements.

How do we start?

With an ERP Value Diagnostic: a focused review of the decisions leadership needs to make, the information the ERP already holds, what is missing, and which single area should be built first.
